The ground has been cleared for the next cottage – Willow Cottage at the far end of the farm, close to where the two streams come together.
the view from the stream looking up to where the cottage will be built. Alien trees have been uprooted (Port Jackson and black wattle), and the tree trunks are used for building steps and the branches will go through a chipper and form the foundation layer on the bank below where a green lawn will be established (transplanted from around the olive trees).
Weeping Willow Island – where the guests of Willow cottage can chill next to the stream on hot summer days where the trees and stream keep the place deliciously cool.
Permaculture building means everything needs to be reused, the worst location on a property is used for building. In this case, I’m dealing with a heavily overgrown patch of stream frontage choked with alien vegetation and brambles.
The land takes precedence over the building, and building is carefully planned to take advantage of winter sun and natural shade in summer to reduce heating and cooling costs.
